El Retiro, is a historic garden and public park in Madrid . Considered as one of the main tourist attractions of the city, it has numerous architectural, sculptural and landscape collections from the 17th to the 21st centuries.
It was built in the first half of the seventeenth century.and it is use as an urban park since 1767, allowed the public to enter for recreational purposes and, definitively, from 1868, when it came under the ownership of the City of Madrid. it has 118 hectares (1.180 000 m²).

Ah, yes. Many happy hours spent wandering round the park.
I won a weekend in Madrid (at the Villa Real!) with a poem which mentioned el Retiro, though I can’t find the verses now.
